Champions Trophy 2025 ICC meeting has been moved to December 7
ICC Board Meeting on Champions Trophy 2025 Postponed Amid India-Pakistan Standoff
The ICC board meeting to discuss the 2025 Champions Trophy, scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed again due to unresolved tensions, primarily involving India.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi traveled to Dubai for the meeting, but disagreements persisted, with India maintaining a firm stance. The session, expected to be an introduction under new ICC Chairman Jay Shah, was hoped to address key issues like the tournament schedule, but no progress was made.
Sources indicate that India’s reluctance to participate or accept certain partnership models hindered any decisions. This deadlock has further complicated the Champions Trophy’s future.
Earlier, the PCB had reportedly agreed to India’s proposed hybrid model, where India’s matches would be held in Dubai. However, the PCB later demanded the hybrid format apply to all ICC events in India through 2031, including tournaments like the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, the 2026 T20 World Cup, and the 2031 ODI World Cup.
India’s cricket board, the BCCI, rejected these conditions, citing no security threats in India. Reports state the BCCI conveyed this to ICC officials, leading to a renewed standoff.
The PCB has since proposed a “Partnership Formula,” suggesting neutral venues like Dubai for matches involving India and Pakistan across ICC events. This move, aimed at resolving longstanding tensions, reflects the PCB’s cautious approach following past disagreements with the BCCI.
As talks remain at an impasse, the future of the 2025 Champions Trophy hangs in the balance.
