Unapologetically Bold: Shameen Khan on Style, Self-Belief, and Setting Trends

Exclusive Interview with Shameen Khan: A Star in Pakistan’s Entertainment Industry

Shameen Khan is a celebrated Pakistani actress known for her captivating performances and bold, stylish presence. She debuted in television serials and made her film debut in 2019 with Gumm, directed by Shamoon Abbasi. Appearing in popular TV series like Gohar-e-Nayab, Hina Ki Khushboo, Dharkan, Bharosa Pyar Tera, and Khuda Aur Muhabbat, Shameen has established herself as one of the most admired actresses in Pakistan. Renowned for her glamorous style, she’s often hailed as a fashion icon in the industry, and her fit, graceful look is loved by fans across the globe.

In this exclusive interview with Buzz Observer, Shameen opens up about her experiences in the entertainment industry, discussing topics from casting couch rumors to the pressure to conform to industry standards.

Buzz Observer: There are always rumors about the casting couch in the entertainment industry. As someone who’s worked hard for your roles, have you ever faced situations where your values were tested to get work?

Shameen Khan: Honestly, I haven’t. I’ve never encountered a casting couch experience. One reason, I believe, is that I’ve studied in an acting academy and have an acting diploma from the National Academy of Performing Arts. That training really helped me establish myself on my own terms.

Buzz Observer: Acting can be really stressful, especially with all the public pressure. How do you take care of your mental health, and do you think the industry provides enough support for actors in this regard?

Shameen Khan: Acting demands you to be “all in”—you have to be mentally stable to handle the intensity of this profession. Personally, I find balance by living a simple life and keeping my personal life separate. As for the industry, I don’t believe it’s their job to manage mental health; it’s up to each artist to handle their well-being.

Buzz Observer: Nepotism is always a big topic in the entertainment world. As someone who deserves more recognition, do you feel like the industry gives more importance to connections than talent? How do you deal with this?

Shameen Khan: Nepotism is real, and as the saying goes, some people are “born with a silver spoon.” Producers often trust those close to them, and that’s their choice. But I trust our audience—they know who deserves a role based on talent. Sure, it can be disheartening when someone gets more work than you think they deserve, but I just keep praying and hoping that my own luck will come through.

Buzz Observer: Sometimes it feels like certain actors get more roles because of favoritism, not talent. Have you ever felt that your hard work goes unnoticed, and how do you keep yourself motivated in such a competitive field?

Shameen Khan: There’s definitely a “lobby system” in our industry. Actors who are close to directors and producers get more attention. I’ve experienced this firsthand, where I didn’t receive the same encouragement or recognition as some favorites on set. It can be hurtful, but I focus on my passion for acting and continue to work hard.

Buzz Observer: In this industry, actresses are often expected to fit a certain image or mold. Have you ever felt pressured to change yourself to get more roles, and how do you stay true to who you are?

Shameen Khan: (Laughs) Yes, I’ve faced this! A director once suggested I consider cosmetic surgery to make my lips and nose “TV-perfect.” But I didn’t listen. I believe in myself and embrace who I am.

Buzz Observer: You’ve always delivered great performances. Do you feel the industry sometimes doesn’t cast you in more challenging roles because of certain perceptions? What kind of characters would you like to explore?

Shameen Khan: I can’t say why I’m not cast for more complex roles. My dream is to portray real-life characters, to dive into stories that are both raw and relatable.

Buzz Observer: Actors face many struggles that the audience doesn’t always see. Do you think the industry offers enough support for actors dealing with issues like mental health, favoritism, or harassment?

Shameen Khan: Again, I think the responsibility lies with the artist. Every actor faces their own battles, including criticism on social media. I’ve been openly criticized online, and it’s a constant learning process for me to handle it gracefully.

Buzz Observer: Many believe you deserve more appreciation and lead roles in dramas. Do you feel the industry values talent like yours, or is it more about connections and politics?

Shameen Khan: I have seen many pretty faces in the industry who may be more talented or beautiful than me. Talent and success often come with time and luck. I do believe I deserve better roles, and I try to pick characters that allow me to showcase my acting abilities, even if politics and connections sometimes get in the way.

With her resilience, talent, and dedication, Shameen Khan continues to inspire audiences worldwide. We at Buzz Observer wish her the best and look forward to seeing her rise and shine in the industry.
