Fury’s decision came less than a month after losing the heavyweight world title to Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh.
Former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing.
“I’ll keep this short and sweet,” the British boxer said in a social media post on Monday. “I want to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Fury’s announcement came after the Ukrainian retained his world heavyweight title with a unanimous decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk in a Dec. 21 rematch.
Fury’s sudden retirement has drawn skepticism. In April 2022, the “Gypsy King” declared he was “quitting” boxing after beating Dillian Whyte, only to return a few months later to fight Dereck Chisora.
If this is indeed the end of Fury’s boxing career, he will leave the sport with an impressive professional record of 34 wins (24 by knockout, one draw and two losses). Those two losses came to Usyk last year.
Before Monday’s announcement, the 36-year-old was expected to return to the ring in 2025 in a mega showdown with longtime British rival Anthony Joshua.
