Dr. Laaiba, the flawless beauty and amazing soul

Here, Dr. Laaiba shares her journey, aspirations, and thoughts in an engaging Q&A session, reflecting her unique blend of professionalism and personal charisma.

1. Can you tell us more about your educational background?

Dr. Laaiba: I am a diplomat in the American Board of Aesthetic Medicine and hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Dermatology from Cardiff University in the UK. I completed my schooling in Dubai, pursued MBBS in Pakistan, and furthered my training in the USA and the UK. In simple terms, I am a consultant dermatologist and an aesthetic physician.

2. What inspired you to pursue a career in aesthetic medicine?

Dr. Laaiba: Honestly, aesthetic medicine wasn’t initially in my plans. I had a completely different goal in mind—I wanted to pursue neurology if I ever entered medicine. In fact, I didn’t even plan to become a doctor at first!

I was calm, quiet, and completely uninterested in fashion or beauty during my earlier years. It surprises many of my old friends to see me now, promoting skincare and beautification. However, life has a way of leading you to unexpected paths, and I’ve grown to love this field.

Aesthetics has taught me the importance of confidence and self-love. Seeing people feel happier and more confident in their skin makes everything worthwhile.

3. What are some of the challenges you face in your field?

Dr. Laaiba: Every day in this field presents new challenges. Each face is unique, and when you’re working with someone’s face, the stakes are incredibly high. A face is a person’s identity; if something goes wrong, it cannot be hidden.

Treatments like threads and other intricate procedures are particularly demanding, as they require precision and skill. However, the satisfaction of delivering exceptional results and seeing the confidence it brings to my clients is what keeps me motivated.

I believe that the trust my patients place in me is a responsibility, and I work hard to honor that trust by giving my absolute best in every treatment.

4. What advancements in aesthetic medicine excite you the most?

Dr. Laaiba: Aesthetic medicine is evolving at an incredible pace. Every day, something new emerges, and it’s both thrilling and challenging to stay on top of these advancements.

At the moment, I am particularly fascinated by exosomes and biosomes. They are transforming the field of anti-aging and skin rejuvenation by offering tremendous results. Additionally, NAD drips and cutting-edge machines for skin rejuvenation are pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve in aesthetics.

It’s an exciting time to be in this field, and I’m constantly inspired by the innovations that allow us to help our clients look and feel their best.

5. Where did you grow up, and what was your childhood like?

Dr. Laaiba: I grew up in Dubai, and my childhood was filled with love and warmth. Being the youngest child, I was very pampered.

Although my memories of childhood are a bit hazy, I do remember it being a simple yet joyful time. I was fortunate to have great friends, many of whom I’m still close to. I fondly recall sneaking off to a mall near our school to enjoy better food than what was offered in school!

Overall, my childhood was a happy, carefree period that I cherish deeply.

6. What were your interests and hobbies as a child?

Dr. Laaiba: As a child, I had a keen interest in science and technology. I loved watching Discovery Science and National Geographic, fascinated by inventions and how things were created.

I was also very active and enjoyed sports like basketball, swimming, and cycling. Art was another outlet for my creativity. Interestingly, I wanted to become a pilot when I was younger. Looking back, I can see how those interests shaped my curiosity and passion for learning.

7. What advice would you give to young women interested in pursuing a career in medicine?

Dr. Laaiba: If you ask me for advice for young women wanting to pursue this career, to be completely honest, I don’t think this is the best choice right now. With advancements in AI and other fields, there are better and more in-demand career options out there.

Doctors these days face many challenges, and if you ask most of them, they’re struggling in one way or another. There are so many restrictions and hurdles to practice, and you need to clear exams everywhere you go. An MBBS degree alone isn’t enough—you need to do much more to become a consultant, and that takes a very long time.

If you truly love medicine and are passionate about it, then it’s fine to go for it. But if you have other, better opportunities, I’d suggest pursuing those instead. Medicine is really tough, and there are easier, more rewarding paths in demand now.

Dr. Laaiba: Some of the most sought-after treatments at my clinic include:

  • Exosomes for hair and skin rejuvenation: These treatments are highly effective for younger-looking skin and healthier hair.
  • Microneedling: A great option for improving skin texture and tone.
  • Thread lifts: These are excellent for lifting and tightening the skin.
  • Chemical peels: A popular choice for addressing pigmentation, sun damage, and acne scars.

These treatments not only enhance physical appearance but also boost confidence and self-esteem, which is the ultimate goal of aesthetic medicine.

9. How do you ensure the safety and satisfaction of your patients?

Dr. Laaiba: I ensure the safety and satisfaction of my patients with help of doctors at my clinic. Even when I travel frequently, I stay involved in every case. I review what’s been done, provide guidance if needed, and offer online consultations to support patients.

Although the doctors are highly trained, I stay involved to make sure patients feel comfortable and confident that they’re in safe hands. We treat our patients like family—many even become friends. We are committed to ensuring their satisfaction at every step until they achieve their desired results.

That said, a few patients come with unrealistic expectations, such as wanting to look like a baby again with flawless, wrinkle-free skin, which simply isn’t possible. Those cases can be challenging, but overall, we maintain a high patient satisfaction rate and take pride in our work.

10. What misconceptions about aesthetic medicine would you like to address?

Dr. Laaiba: Aesthetic medicine often faces unwarranted criticism. Some believe treatments like Botox or fillers can make things worse, but when performed correctly by qualified professionals, they enhance one’s natural beauty.

There’s no harm in wanting to look and feel your best, and I think it’s time we stop shaming people for seeking such treatments.

11. What do you discuss with patients considering whitening injections?

Dr. Laaiba: Whitening injections have an interesting history. They were originally created as part of cancer treatment regimens to help detoxify the body. Over time, people noticed that these injections also had skin-brightening effects.

When patients inquire about whitening injections, I make it a point to explain their origins and how they work. These injections contain powerful antioxidants that can help improve skin tone and reduce pigmentation. However, I emphasize that the results are subtle and natural—they can help achieve one or two shades of improvement but not complete transformation.

It’s important for patients to have realistic expectations and to use these treatments responsibly. My focus is always on enhancing their natural beauty rather than promoting an unattainable standard.

12. Have there been any funny or unexpected moments during treatments?

Dr. Laaiba: Absolutely! Patients often bring in pictures of celebrities, like Angelina Jolie or John Abraham, and ask me to make them look like them. It’s both amusing and flattering to see how high their expectations can be.

I’ve also had patients ask for completely unrealistic results, like wanting to look decades younger or having features that aren’t possible to achieve through aesthetics. These moments keep the work interesting and light-hearted, even amidst the serious responsibility we have as professionals.

13. If you weren’t an aesthetic physician, what career would you have pursued?

Dr. Laaiba: This is one of my favorite questions! If I weren’t an aesthetic physician, I would have been a pilot—without a doubt. Flying has always fascinated me, and I believe I would have made an excellent pilot. But family restrictions , time and everything didn’t allowed me to do it.

Alternatively, I considered becoming a CSS officer and pursuing a career in foreign services. Both options are exciting and dynamic, but I think my heart always leaned toward flying.

14. What do you do to relax and unwind after a busy day at the clinic?

Dr. Laaiba: Relaxation for me is all about simplicity and comfort. After a long day at the clinic, I love unwinding with Netflix. My husband and I enjoy watching our favorite series together, often accompanied by sweet popcorn that we buy in bulk from cinemas and store at home.

This downtime helps me recharge and reconnect with myself. It’s a small but cherished ritual that allows me to balance the demands of my profession with moments of joy and relaxation.

15. What’s one thing that might surprise people about you?

Dr. Laaiba: I think most people know me pretty well—there’s nothing too surprising about me. I’m like an open book. But I think one thing that might shock people is that I can cook really well! If I tell them, they’re usually like, “Dr. Laiba, you can cook that well?” I actually love cooking, so I guess that’s something unexpected about me.

Oh, and I also have next-level OCD when it comes to keeping the house clean. It sometimes annoys my husband 🙂

16. What advice would you give to young women considering a career in aesthetic medicine or the medical profession?

Dr. Laaiba: My advice to young women considering a career in aesthetic medicine or medicine in general is to carefully weigh your options. I’m not here to discourage anyone or lower their morale, but based on my experience, there are other fields out there with better career prospects and more promising opportunities.

The medical field is becoming increasingly competitive, with more doctors than ever, making it hard to find jobs and clear the required exams. Every year, the process gets tougher. If you have other career options, I’d suggest exploring those.

That said, if becoming a doctor is truly your passion, go for it—it’s your choice. But I’ll be honest: the field demands immense effort and hard work, and in many cases, the financial and personal rewards don’t always match the sacrifices you make.

17. What are your future goals for ‘Aesthetics by Dr. Laaiba’?

Dr. Laaiba: My ultimate goal is to expand ‘Aesthetics by Dr. Laaiba’ into a global brand. I’m currently working on opening branches in Dubai and London, which I’m incredibly excited about.

In addition to physical expansions, I’m always looking to introduce the latest advancements in aesthetic medicine to my clinics. I want to ensure that my clients have access to cutting-edge treatments and the best possible care. ‘Aesthetics by Dr. Laaiba’ is my passion project, and I’m committed to making it a trusted name worldwide.

18. Do you have a message for your patients and followers?

Dr. Laaiba: I am deeply grateful to every patient and follower who has supported me on this journey. Your trust and confidence in me mean the world, and I feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to make a positive impact in your lives.

To my patients, thank you for trusting me with your care and for allowing me to be part of your journey to self-confidence. To my followers, your encouragement inspires me to keep growing and striving for excellence.

The journey is far from over, and I look forward to continuing this path with your unwavering support. Thank you for believing in me and in ‘Aesthetics by Dr. Laaiba.’
